The "ALPHA 3"
Course of Memory Training is the outcome of many years of study
and research into all known systems of developing the faculty of
memorising. Ancient and modern method, as a result, an
astonishingly simple system which enables even dull minds to
achieve remarkable results with the minimum of effort. This
system incorporates principles as old, at least, as the ancient
Greeks, as well as others from the Middle Ages and modern
times. It is based upon simple faculties possessed by every
human being. Few people know how to use the mental power they
have. We are not referring here to any mysterious or unusual or
rare faculties: we refer to the most commonplace everyday
abilities such as seeing, hearing, feeling, knowing, realising.
These faculties are not used to one hundredth of their capacity
by the ordinary person. Certainly not one person in a thousand
realises what a wonderful memorising power he actually already
possesses - until he is shown. This Course shows you how to
discover the memory you didn't know you had.
THE ABSOLUTE SIMPLICITY OF THE COURSE
We insist on
the fact that the ordinary person has no difficulty whatever in
mastering the methods put forward in this Course. The reason
for this is that, as we mentioned above, it merely calls for the
simple exercise of qualities already possessed by every human
being. You are not asked to master a new and difficult
technique. You are merely shown how to do what you have always
done with your mind, but to do it in a new way - and a very easy

We are not

does not seem possible to claim that by means of a steady
application of the system any ordinary person can remember
everything he or she may read or hear.
SOME STARTLING FEATS
We make even
more ambitious claims than that. We know that the ordinary man
or woman can do, with the aid of this system, things that are
almost completely impossible without it. Take an example or
two. If a friend were to shuffle a pack of cards and then deal
them out one at a time before you, could you tell him, when he
had finished, the name of the 3rd, the 19th, the 25th, the 17th
or any order forwards or backwards?

multiply a five-figure number by a four-figure number, in your
head, without putting pencil to paper?
This system
shows you how to do that...
Such feats,
of course, are of little or no practical value - they are merely
interesting as examples of the extraordinary things the ordinary
person can do with his or her mind, when it is directed into the
right channels.
Note the word
"ordinary". It is deliberately chosen. This is a Course, not
only for the ordinary mind.
NEGLECTED EDUCATION
For the
reason the course is a wonderful boon to people whose education
has unfortunately been sketchy or unfinished. It enables such

THE MEMORY IS THE ESSENTIAL
CHARACTERISTIC OF HUMANITY
It has been
pointed out that man alone, among the animals, has a complex
memory. Dogs, horses, cats can remember a limited number of
simple sense-experiences - sights, smells, sounds, and so on.
But man alone can store his memories, compare and utilise them,
use them for the fashioning of his life, for the achievement of
success and the unique pleasure that control over our minds
gives us. It stands to reason, then, that the more efficient a
man's memory is, the greater the control he can exercise, not
only over himself, but over others. He has an automatic "start"
in a race where his competitors are handicapped by the lack of
control that a bad memory always means.
The "ALPHA 3"

In a few
weeks they can be completely mastered and applied. This is
emphatically not merely the simplest, it is also the speediest

HOW THE SYSTEM IS TAUGHT
The "ALPHA
3" System of Memory Training consists of eight lessons. The
student is invited to read the first lesson, which will take
about half an hour to do carefully. In this lesson he is given
certain instructions of a highly practical kind to carry out.
He is told exactly what to do and how to do it. He is shown how
to practise the processed described. He will derive very great
enjoyment and benefit from these exercises of the mind - and we
guarantee, will be able to astonish, not merely his friends, but
himself by what he can do - after half an hour's mild study!
When he has mastered this lesson he writes out the answers to a
series of test questions, which appear at the end of the
lesson. The student will have an adult questioning their
results, using the Course Books as a guide and advise of their

When the
first lesson is mastered (and this should take only a few days,
practising the methods laid down for, say half an hour a day),
the second lesson is read and used, in the same way, and again
the student answers the test questions, and gets our criticism
and help before going on to Lesson Three.
The same
procedure is followed for each of the eight lessons. The whole
Course takes the average person rather less than six weeks to
master thoroughly. But after the first few hours (not weeks) it
is applied to your daily life, and to your work. The basic
essentials are all quite clear from the beginning, and the
system develops in a simple, pleasant-and-easy-to-follow fashion
from first lesson to eighth.
NOT MERELY A MEMORY SYSTEM
It is a very
important fact to note that although we present this as a method
of developing the memory, pure and simple, and not as a vague,
general system for developing the mind as a whole, - in spite of
this fact, the "ALPHA 3" System has astonishingly beneficial
effects on certain other mental faculties. It gently, almost
subconsciously, develops the power of concentration. It does
not set out to do this; it just happens that by merely following
instructions, the student finds that his ability to concentrate
has apparently miraculously, been enormously strengthened.
